Le Hammer has owned and bred German Shorthaired Pointers since 1971. She trialled in the obedience ring gaining a CDX title with her first dog while still in high school. She graduated as a veterinary surgeon in 1986. During her time at Uni she used to show her dogs in the conformation ring (since it did not take a lot of time to train them.) She showed and bred several show champions and these dogs are now 6 or 7 generations back in the pedigrees of her present day Fenrik GSP’s
After graduating, Le was away from “the purebred dog world” for a few years, although she still had her old dog “Wags”. This is when she met Keith – her Scuba Diving Instructor. Le then became involved in training her new pup, “Ned” – a son of Wags. This was when she was introduced to agility style training. With Keith, this developed into Canine Fun Sports and the addiction was started. Le has trialled 8 dogs in agility – Ned, Rabbit, Sparkle, Jynx, (no longer with us) Murphy and Pace with Rumble just starting her trialling career (see below). Between them they have gained more that 80 masters titles including three having their ANKC agility championships.
Now Le spends very little of her time practicing as a vet. Most of her time is now involved teaching agility with Keith, then trialling or judging on most weekends. Le has been judging since 1999 and has been a member of the Agility Judge’s Committee. She has also served on the Dogs NSW Aggressive Dogs Working Party and the Dogs NSW Voluntary Accredited Breeders Scheme Working Party. Occasionally Le gets a trip away interstate or overseas to do some judging or to give seminars.
